Under current law, a borrower cannot borrow more than $500.00 at one time from payday loan or short-term lenders.  Part of the means for enforcement of this law was that the payday loan companies needed to subscribe to and update a database which would keep track of loans.  In 2013, the payday loan industry sued Alabama to block the implementation of the database, but in April, the Alabama Supreme Court held that the Alabama Banking Department can establish and maintain the database for these loans.

The State Banking Department announced on August 4, 2015 that the database would be up and running on August 10, 2015.  The database can be found at www.aldpp.com.  The State Banking Department has posted some FAQs which can be found here.
